Colour can hold memory as powerfully as metal. This extraordinary Echoes of Time choker brings together upcycled antique silver, Yemeni black coral with hand-worked silver inlay, turquoise, carnelian and red glass in a richly layered composition of colour, movement and history.
Restoring the original antique silver structure was a meticulous process. The entire piece was carefully examined, dismantled where necessary and cleaned by hand. Broken links and damaged sections were repaired, weakened areas were strengthened and missing components were reconstructed before the choker was gradually reassembled. Every section was checked again so that the articulated elements and dangles could move freely while preserving the time-worn character of the original silver.
Antique Yemeni black coral, traditionally known as yusr was then incorporated into the upper design. Each dark coral bead carries intricate hand-worked silver inlay, creating a striking contrast against its naturally deep surface. These rare antique elements retain their irregularity, patina and traces of former use, ensuring that the restored choker remains connected to its past.
Turquoise beads introduce vivid blue-green colour throughout the piece and along the lower dangles. Turquoise is a copper-bearing mineral treasured by many cultures for thousands of years and traditionally associated with protection, good fortune and safe passage. Its natural variations bring softness and individuality to the aged silver.
Carnelian adds glowing shades of burnt orange and red. A translucent variety of chalcedony, it has historically been used in beads, seals and amulets and is often associated symbolically with courage, vitality and creativity. Small red glass beads deepen the warm colour story, catching the light between the silver and turquoise.
The final composition was finished with handcrafted sterling silver clasps and matching earrings. Rows of antique silver, suspended elements and colourful bead dangles create a wide, dramatic silhouette around the neckline, with gentle movement and sound as it is worn.
Rather than appearing newly manufactured, the finished choker feels assembled across time, a layered archive of craftsmanship and materials, patiently restored from beginning to end. Bold, intricate and impossible to duplicate, it is an entirely original SuhaniMara statement piece.
