SuhaniMara is a Jewellery House creating modern heirlooms inspired by history, nature and the stories that connect us.
Rooted in heritage, handcrafted in Kenya, and inspired by stories from around the world, SuhaniMara transforms materials including antique silver and gold, historic coins, ostrich eggshell, fossils, meteorite, and precious gemstones into modern jewellery, that celebrate history and craftsmanship.

Meera Ramesh
Meera grows up in Kenya, surrounded by Indian heritage, family craft, jewellery, gemstones and cultural traditions.
Her father’s work as a self taught silversmith becomes an early influence, shaping her respect for antique materials and the stories they carry.
Meera studies Fine Arts and Graphic Arts at Liverpool John Moores University, learning how design can carry concept, emotion and identity.
Back in Nairobi, she works in branding and creative direction, while collaborations with other artisans and her father deepen her exposure to African beads, carvings and antique silver.
In California, Meera trains at the world-renowned Gemological Institute of America (GIA), building formal expertise in jewellery design, gemology and professional jewellery practice.
As a graduate gemologist, she worked with miners, gem dealers, high-end jewellers and at gem trade shows globally. In the US, she learnt the world of luxury retail, gemstone evaluation and bespoke production.
Returning to Nairobi, Meera launches Maafrikami Designs, a first entrepreneurial venture focused on bespoke pieces made from vintage and antique materials.
The work reaches institutional clients, exhibitions and international trade shows, giving her a stronger sense of how cultural fusion can become a jewellery language.
Maafrikami was where many of the core ideas were tested: cross cultural design, old materials, client stories, and jewellery as something more lasting than adornment. SuhaniMara refined those ideas into a more personal and intergenerational brand.
The birth of Meera’s daughter Suhani inspires a new name SuhaniMara which means pleasant, beautiful, mine which gives a clearer purpose: jewellery that connects past and present, craft and memory, mother and daughter.
Today, SuhaniMara creates heirloom quality pieces rooted in sustainability, storytelling and empowerment, designed to be cherished and passed down.
Founder and craft
SuhaniMara carries both a family story and a design philosophy. The name comes from Suhani, Meera’s daughter, and from the idea that a jewel should feel beautiful, meaningful and truly yours.
Meera looks for materials with memory: pieces that have travelled, aged, changed hands and gathered meaning before entering a new design.
The brand honours hand skill, slow detail and the small irregularities that make handcrafted jewellery feel alive.
Kenyan-Indian roots, Kenyan craft and global influences sit together naturally in the work, without turning culture into costume.
SuhaniMara pieces are made to be worn, gifted, remembered, reset, repaired and passed forward.
