The Echoes of Time necklace brings together upcycled antique Yemeni silver beads, orange-red and black coral from Yemen, and richly coloured Afghan lapis lazuli in a layered composition of colour, texture and heritage.
The warm orange-red coral creates a vivid contrast against the deeper black coral, traditionally known as yusr. Both varieties have long appeared in Yemeni jewellery and personal adornment, valued for their natural beauty and individual markings. Their uneven shapes and time-worn surfaces are preserved rather than disguised, allowing their age and character to remain visible.
Afghan lapis lazuli introduces an intense blue drawn from one of the world’s most historic gemstone regions. Prized for thousands of years, lapis is recognised by its deep ultramarine colour, often accompanied by natural white calcite markings or tiny golden flecks of pyrite. Each bead brings its own variation of blue to the design.
Upcycled antique Yemeni silver beads separate and frame the colours. Their handmade forms, aged patina and differing silver tones reflect traditional craftsmanship; as historic alloys varied, no two beads have exactly the same surface or character.
