A statement necklace bringing together antique Yemeni silver, large antique black coral beads, Baltic amber and handmade Yemeni Tut beads, accompanied by matching earrings with sterling silver hooks.
At the centre sits a large antique Yemeni silver ball, its generous rounded form giving the necklace a bold, sculptural focus. The handworked surface, softened details and natural patina reveal its age and the touch of the original artisan. Smaller antique silver elements and textured Tut beads surround it, creating a rich contrast of shape and scale.
Yemeni Tut beads are made through the traditional art of granulation. Tiny silver granules are individually formed, arranged and soldered together by hand, creating their distinctive textured, mulberry-like appearance.
The large, plain antique black coral beads bring depth and an organic simplicity to the design. Traditionally known as yusr, black coral was used across Yemen and the Arabian Peninsula in jewellery and prayer strands. Each bead carries natural markings and traces of age that make it entirely individual.
Baltic amber introduces warmth and translucency. Formed from ancient fossilised tree resin from the Baltic region, its rich honey and cognac tones illuminate the dark coral and aged silver. Amber and coral bring together two natural materials from different worlds, one resinous and formed on land, the other marine and shaped beneath the sea.
In this piece, “antique silver” describes the age, origin and traditional workmanship of the Yemeni components; it does not mean pure silver or guarantee a standard fineness. Historic Yemeni silver was created from silver alloys of varying purity, often using the materials available to the artisan. The newly made earring hooks, however, are sterling silver.
