A once broken piece of antique Yemeni silver work has been meticulously restored and transformed into this dramatic contemporary choker.
The original ornament was carefully examined, cleaned and repaired by hand. Damaged links were restored, weakened sections strengthened and the many articulated elements reconnected so that the intricate structure and gentle movement of the original piece could be preserved.
Traditional Yemeni silver jewellery was valued for its elaborate handwork, layered construction and abundance of small suspended elements. In this choker, rows of antique silver form a broad, richly textured silhouette around the neckline, while the lower dangles move softly and catch the light when worn. The subtle irregularities and traces of age remain visible, preserving the character of the original makers.
A light gold-plated finish gives the antique silver a fresh warmth without overwhelming its historic detail. Rather than making the piece appear newly manufactured, the soft gold tone highlights its patterns, depth and movement while giving it a confident modern presence.
The restored centrepiece has been completed with a new gold-plated sterling silver chain and clasps for secure, comfortable wear, together with matching earrings.
