Matt finish cuff bangle with antique 1888 rupie coin and African red amber

Matt finish cuff bangle with antique 1888 rupie coin and African red amber

Sterling silver cuff bangle with African red Amber square set with antique India rupee coin from 1800’s

A meeting of materials, cultures and histories.

This handcrafted matt-finish cuff is set with a square of rich red African amber and an old Indian rupee coin once used in Yemen, bringing together Africa, India and the Arabian Peninsula in a single piece.

For generations, the ports of Yemen particularly Aden sat at the crossroads of important maritime trade routes linking India, Arabia and East Africa. Indian currency became part of this interconnected world; historical records show the rupee circulating in Aden before it was replaced by East African currency in the mid-20th century.

Reimagined by SuhaniMara, the old coin becomes a small witness to that movement of people, goods and cultures. Paired with the warmth of African amber and the understated matt finish Sterling Silver metal, the cuff transforms a fragment of trading history into a bold contemporary piece.

A story of exchange, movement and connection and history travelling once again, this time as jewellery
