Old British East Africa Coin beaded Bracelets with Malachite and Green Quartz

Old British East Africa Coin beaded Bracelets with Malachite and Green Quartz

Rare 50 cent British East African coin with Green Quartz beaded bracelet.

The old 50 Cent coins, also known as Half-Shilling coins, features the lion with Mount Kenya rising in the background, an evocative image of Kenya’s landscape and heritage while Green Quartz  brings a softer, translucent green to the bracelet, transforming a piece of the region’s monetary past into jewellery that can continue its story in the present.

Old 1 cent domed British East African copper coin with Malachite bead bracelet.

The original East African 1 Cent coins date to 1900s, when the East African shilling was the currency used across the region and struck during the reign of King George V. Malachite is a distinctive green copper carbonate mineral, recognised for its extraordinary natural bands and patterns that range from pale green to deep forest tones. Used decoratively for thousands of years, every piece of malachite carries its own markings, making each stone naturally individual. A meeting of history, colour and natural stone.

Once exchanged as everyday currency, it is now given another life as a wearable piece of East African history. Its age and natural wear are part of its character rather than imperfections traces of the hands, places and years through which it has travelled.

Part of SuhaniMara’s Coined in Time Collection, both bracelets reflects our belief that objects from the past need not be forgotten. Reimagined through contemporary jewellery, they can be worn, treasured and eventually passed from one generation to the next preserving a small piece of history along the way.
