5 Cent Copper Coin Pin
This 1943 5 Cent British East Africa Copper Coin Pin gives an original piece of historic coinage a new life through SuhaniMara’s contemporary design language. The warm, naturally aged copper coin is transformed into a distinctive pin, preserving the markings and character acquired over decades.
Once part of everyday currency in old British East Africa, these old copper coins are increasingly difficult to find, the coins feature the distinctive curved elephant tusks that surround their centre, a small but evocative detail from East Africa’s monetary past.
Rather than allowing them to disappear into history, SuhaniMara upcycles and preserves them as wearable keepsakes connecting past and present through jewellery.
Designed to be worn on a jacket, lapel, scarf, hat or bag, each pin carries the individual patina and imperfections of an authentic old coin, meaning no two will be exactly alike.
